Tack Coat

Tack coat is the application of and asphalt emulsion applied to the surface of an existing paved surface before a new asphalt hot mix is applied. It's used to promote good bonding between the layers.

Vestal Asphalt Inc. provides both NYS DOT and Penn Dot approved tack coats. In New York there are two different types of tack coats:

• 702-9002 Standard tack coat used for all paving courses including Super Pave mixes
• 702-3002 Polymer modified RS-1h for 6.3 mm thin overlays.

Tack coats can be produced in both cationic and anionic grades. Make sure if you’re buying bulk that the previous product you handled is compatible with the new material.
